An extended wonder tale, including fragments
of mythology and folk tale. A boy's parents die and from that
point he cannot sleep due to the many questions he is seeking
answers to. He journeys to find the world where questions are
answered. He meets a milk maid, a blacksmith and a miller on his
way, each of whom are plagued by questions and dreams. The boy
collects their questions and promises them answers. Finally the
boy reaches a cottage where he finds a women about to hang
herself, but who despite her efforts, cannot die. She is the
Queen of the Planets and carries the world within her. He asks
her his questions and she tells him stories. The boy travels back
through the world, giving answers to the miller, the blacksmith
and the milk maid, and when his journey ends, he
sleeps.

In 2003, Jillian Barker, Head of Education at the Barbican
Centre, London, approached Ben Haggarty, Artistic Director of the
Crick Crack Club, with a proposal to programme regular
performance storytelling at the Barbican Centre. Since 2003 the
Crick Crack Club has worked in partnership with Barbican
Education to programme 9 events a year in the Barbican Pit
Theatre, for adult audiences. These events are programmed during
the three school half terms each year, with usually three evening
events per half term. The performances of storytelling are
occasionally preceded by pre-show talks. The Pit Theatre is an
award winning black box theatre, which seats approximately 180
people (depending on the seating configuration).
