Lazy Jack
a Jack Tale story

Sound recording, story; Lazy Jack, a European folk tale and Jack tale, told by Ben Haggarty, as part of a performance Midwinter Tales, at The King of Hearts arts centre, Norwich, 16th December 2006

A story told by Ben Haggarty about Lazy Jack and his wife Mary. Jack is thrown out of the house by his wife, who refuses to let him back in until he brings back something to eat. Jack borrows a gun from the minister and goes to the edge of a pond to hunt. Mis-using the gun, Jack accidentally manages to kill not only a brace of duck, but also a hare and a fish. In the process Jack's head is sliced off by the ice on the pond, but he manages to stick it back on and it freezes in place. Jack returns home and returns to his usual spot by the fire. Jack then accidentally throws his head into the fire, whilst engaging in his old habit of picking his nose.
